Newsweek ranks Koç University Hospital first in Türkiye in World's Best Hospitals 2026

On 25 February 2026, Newsweek and the research company Statista published the 2026 edition of their World's Best Hospitals ranking. In the list for Türkiye, Koç University Hospital in Istanbul is ranked first, with a score of 91.80%. In the global top 250, the same hospital is placed 213th.

This is the first edition in which Türkiye is included in the ranking. According to Newsweek, the 2026 edition evaluated more than 2,500 hospitals in 32 countries.

How the ranking is built

The methodology published by Newsweek combines several data sources, with the following weights:

• hospital quality metrics – 40%;
• recommendations from healthcare professionals in the same country – 30%, plus 5% from international recommendations;
• patient experience data – 18.5%;
• implementation of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) – 6.5%.

Newsweek notes that scores are comparable only within the same country, because each country relies on different sources for quality and patient-experience data.

Other hospitals in the Türkiye list

Hacettepe University Hospital in Ankara is second. The top ten also include Anadolu Medical Center in Gebze (3rd, and 248th in the global top 250), Medipol Mega Hospitals Complex (4th), Acıbadem International Hospital (5th), American Hospital in Istanbul (8th) and Liv Hospital (9th). Memorial Şişli Hospital is 16th.

What it means for patients

A ranking like this reflects an overall assessment of a hospital, based on available data and the views of specialists. It does not show how well a given hospital suits a particular condition, and choosing where to be treated remains a decision to make with doctors, case by case.
